The Tandoor

  The Tandoor
- takes you on a mysterious journey to India

The Tandoor - Shanghai, the first and finest Indian restaurant in Shanghai, was open in 1994 at the food street of Jin Jiang Hotel. The intimate design of the restaurant, the authentic food, the excellent service, as well as the mysteriously romantic atmosphere make it one of the best exotic theme restaurants in Southeast Asia and a favorite dinning destination for gourmets from all over the world.
Recently this most prestigious Indian restaurant has reopened with a grand new look in the lobby of South building of Jin Jiang Hotel after a totally refurbishment. The design of the restaurant has maintained the theme ˇ°Silk Routeˇ±, a celebration of the ancient craven routes from China through India to Central Asia ... across which traveled cultural influences, cuisine and religions scholars. Conceived as a frozen caravan along this route, the interior is laid out on the floor inspired by the geographical map of this journey. Five pavilions, representing classical architectural styles, enhance the cultural identities. The ceiling is choreographed with calligraphic quotes from the writings of Fa Hien & Hieun Tsang -- two Chinese scholars to visit India in 4th & 7th B.C. The walls and windows attempt to enlarge the reality of this space through multiple reflections. It delivers the unique and captivating flavors of Indian cuisine in a remarkable d¨¦cor that takes you on a mysterious journey to India.
The largely barbeque and curry based dishes, are prepared by Indian chefs, taking into consideration the spice level preferred by the guests. While the ingredients are imported from India, so is the entire kitchen and service team. The waiting staff is always more than willing to help you select the right dishes. An executive set lunch for just RMB 68 per person is a great way to get introduced to Indian cuisine. In the evening, the dinning experience is enhanced by live classical Indian dances performed by beautiful Indian dancers.
For an individual unfamiliar with Indian fare, this is the place to go if you want a genuine Indian experience. It is also the ideal option for business entertaining, with private yet open areas in which to wine and dine a client.
