Kangding Paomashan International Mountain Tour Fair Time: The eighth day of the fourth month of the Chinese lunar calendar Place: Kangding Region Contents: Paomashan is at the southeastern corner of kangding County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. It became well known simply for a song called ?Kangding Love Song?(which is the only Chinese song recommended by UNESCO). On the eighth day of the fourth month of the Chinese lunar calendar people of different nationalities in the Kangding Region dress in their best and hold a mountain fair on Paomashan. Tibetan people get together under the white Lama Pagoda, erect tents in fields and on meadows, picnic and camp for the night. People of different ethnic groups participate in singing and dancing and entertainment, which includes the Guozhuang Dance (a kind of local dance in which participants dance hand in hand round a bonfire), Tibetan opera, horseracing, and martial arts contest. It is a good opportunity for tourists from home and abroad to learn about the region and enjoy the local customs, The Sixth International Martial Arts Fair Time: May Place: Shanghai City Contents: Martial arts is not only an essential element of Chinese culture, it is also a way to make one strong and healthy. In 2001 Shanghai Municipal Sports Committee will invite martial arts masters from dozens of countries to participate and compete in the fair. There will be two main activities: one is a competition; the other is a martial arts show. Participants will be organized to exhibit their skills and show others the benefits of this ancient art. The Third China Tianjin Huangyaguan Great Wall International Marathon Race Time: Late May Place: Huangyaguan Great Wall Scenic Area in Jixian County, Tianjin Contents: Every year in late May an international marathon is held at Huangyaguan scenic area of the Great wall, a world cultural heritage. The course has been confirmed by the International Athletics Federation as up to the international standard for an open field marathon. More than 1,000 people from all over the world and 2,000 from China will participate, giving a total field of over 3,000. Participants and spectators can enjoy the scenery which includes the ancient Great Wall, mountains, rivers and the pastoral scene. China Zhoushan International Sand Sculpture Festival Time: May-October Place: Zhujiajian in Zhoushan Contents: Zhoushan is the largest archipelago in China. The blue sky, azure water, green island, and white waves make it an ideal place or water and beach sports such as swimming, bathing, ffishing, water skiing, windsurfing and beach volleyball. Zhujiajian Beach has also been recognized by the International Sand Sculpture Organization as the first venue for international sand sculpture activities in China. The sand here is good. Sand sculptures can be made from sand and seawater. Sculptors can create art woks combining natural scenery with whatever they happen to imagine. The sunshine, waves, and golden sand make an ideal setting for this art which requires only the simplest of materials.
