กกกก General Introduction There are many famous mountains and deep valleys in China, for amateur mountain climbers to
test their talents and skills China also has a folk custom which involves climbing mountains on the ninth day of the ninth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. Mountains afford a good view but climbing also instills a feeling of well being, pride in achievements and arouses a love and understanding of nature and the living environment. Now many mountain climbing activities are available to meet the individual needs of climbers. Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Mountain Climbing Tour Best time is April to June and October to November every year. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is known as the "Mother of Mountains". There are more than 100 mountain peaks over 6,000 meters high above sea level in the Tibet Autonomous Region, of which 44 are open to people from home and abroad. It is known at the mountain climber's heaven. Professional mountaineers can challenge peaks over 8,000 meters high, while amateurs can practice their skills on peaks between 6,000 and 7,000 meters. Most of the peaks haven't been climbed, so they are a double challenge. Animaqing Mountain is located in Guoluo Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai. It is 200 kilometers long and 60 kilometers wide with an average elevation of 4,000 meters. There are 18 peaks the highest of which is Animaqing Peak at 6,282 meters above sea level. Since 1980 mountain climbing tourist groups and individuals from Japan, Britain, the United States, Germany, and France have climbed it. Hainan Tropical Rain Forest Mountain Climbing This will be held in July and August and the ninth day of the ninth month of Chinese lunar calendar 2001 at Wuzhishan, Jianfengling, and the Diaoluoshan tropical rain forest tourist zones in Hainan.
Amateur mountain climbers, students and tourist groups from all over the country will be invited. Activities apart from mountain climbing will include mountain climbing fitness, venture into the unknown and popularization of science to view the magnificence of mountains and marvelous spectacle of tropical rain forest. There will also be a photographic exhibition of tropical rain forests. Other activities include ten thousand people signing up for the climb, and a campfire party for Double Ninth Festival (the ninth day of the ninth lunar month). Gansu Qilian Mountain Climbing and Exploration Tour There are 26 snow capped peaks with an elevation of over 5,000 meters on Mt. Qilian. Many amateur mountain climbers come here from home and abroad. Activities include climbing Tuanjie and Arkin Peaks on Mt. Qilian Range and having an exploration. Beijing Badachu Double Ninth Festival Mountain Climbing Badachu is a famous tourist site, a place to convalesce, and a summer resort near the west suburbs of Beijing. It is an attractive place all year round. In September and October crowds of tourists come to climb the mountains when the leaves are turning red. Fujian Wuyishan and Huanggangshan Mountain Climbing Activity Huanggangshan is the highest peak in the Wuyishan Mountain Range at 2,158 meters above sea level. It is also the highest peak in southeast China and known as the "Roof of East China". It is located in the Wuyi Nature Reserve, Wuyishan City. This activity has grown bigger and bigger since it started in 1996. Hundreds of people participated. The climbing will be divided into 10km, 5km and 2.5km stretches. Climbers walk along the winding mountain road. The first one to the top will be the winner. The top of Huanggangshan Mountain is Zhongshan grassland which has spectacular scenery. China Hengshan Mountain Climbing Festival Hengshan, the Northern Mountain in Hunyuan County, Datong City, Shanxi Province is one of Five Sacred Mountains in China. It is a famous scenic spot and the birthplace of Taoism in North China. Activities during the festival will include visiting Taoist temples, sightseeing, mountain climbing, and a trade fair. The teams from Shanxi Province or nearby regions will be divided into professionals and amateurs. Participants will also be divided into three groups: elderly, middle-aged and young. People can climb the mountain, see the suspended pavilion, get to know something about Taoism, and enjoy the beauty beyond the
Great Wall. Henan Songshan Mountain Climbing Tour The tour follows the route taken by emperors of different dynasties including Empress Wu Zetian of the Tang Dynasty who climbed the mountain to confer titles and territories. The route goes to Junji Peak, the main peak of Songshan Mountain 1,495 meters above sea level, and visitors can view Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian historical sites, as well as watch performances of Shaolin martial arts. Tianjin Panshan Mountain Climbing Competition This will be held in September at Panshan Scenic Zone, Jixian County, Tianjin City. Activities include sports, a humorous climbing and demonstration of a rock climbing contest. Three thousand people will participate. Tour to Explore Taibaishan Ruins of an Ancient Glacier Taibai Mountain is the principal peak of Qinling Mountain Range, and rises 3,767 meters above sea level. It is still clothed in its original forests and bears traces of an ancient glacier dating back to the fourth century. Rocks shaped by changes of the ancient glacier, lakes and alpine plants create a marvelous scene. Thousands of people and scientists from home and abroad come here simply to enjoy the view or carry out research. On the mountain there are rock caves, rock rings, rock seas, pillars, and glacier lan
dforms. The scenery transports the viewer back into an ancient age of glaciers. Guangxi Shengtangshan Mountain Climbing and Mountain Flower Appreciation Tour Shengtangshan Mountain is in the southwestern part of Jinxiu County, Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It stands 1,079 meters above sea level and is the fifth highest peak in Guangxi. Every year in May over 700 hectares (around ten thousand mu) of azaleas bloom on the mountain, making it a sea of flowers, an ideal place for the mountain climbing and appreciating flowers.
