04/10/2004 avian influeza
after receiving the sixth email informing me about the new cases of the so-called avian influenza (in german: Huehnergrippe), I thought I might as well add a few words in this place. first of all, what can I actually do except to refrain from eating chicken alltogether (even though chicken is considered safe if well cooked)? I mean, I am not living on a chicken farm and I am not very keen on visiting the chinese livestock market. the local people in bangkok are not very scared, they just go on living their lives and as much as I know from the who website, bangkok is not considered a high risk area. but now with the new human-human version, what shall I do? it's kind of difficult to avoid humans in a city with 7-11 million (7 is the official number) inhabitants. but thank you anyway for your friendly emails. I really appreciate your concerns.
