27/9/2004 sri lanka: last days
tomorrow I will be on my way to bangkok. and I am still not sure what has happend to my university admission (ait in bangkok). so I will spend one month either in bangkok or chiang mai at a language school to improve my thai (sawati-kaa, kap-kun-kaa, kao-pat gai). hoping that after one month everything is going to be organized. last week, I spent four days at my family's village in walapane (between kandy and nuwara eliya). I really enjoyed it a lot, even though I missed my privacy a little (even at night, I was sleeping with at least two people in the same room). but it's ok, you can somehow get used to it. family ties play a much more important role here than in europe. my family lives in a little mountain village and from the house you have some great views, provided it is not raining of course. but the rainy season is approaching and large parts of the country get a couple of hours (5-8h) of rain per day. this is also true for bangkok where parts of the city are regularily flooded in october. this is going to be great fun so this is going to be my last post from sri lanka for the next three months. but I plan to come back in december for christmas. but as nothing is sure in asia, I can't really say much about the future. "we will see...", that's what sri lankans say several times a day and that's how I am going to close my today's post: we will see...
