16/9/2004 colombo
some people say colombo is a really nice city. well, I mean, it's all right for shopping all that stuff that can just be done in a capitol city. and you can find western food in pizza hut and co. but nice? no, it's really not a nice place, although I must admit that I've seen worse places in india (like delhi for example). today I spent the day with changing the date of my flight to madras (chennai as it is called now) at the sri lankan airlines office (changing flight dates is free on asian flights with many asian airlines), and shopping for dvd's and some clothes and just sitting in an air-conditioned kfc to avoid the heath. nothing really important except for my flight ticket, but things are so cheap here, you just feel like buying everything... right now I am sitting in a rather modern (flatscreen and very fast connection) internet cafe and waiting for fabian to call me. he is in his meeting with the gtz. when he calls, we might go and see some friends and then go back to seeduwa (home sweet home) by bus. by the way, even if you try to avoid the rush hours, there is a lot of traffic and the bus gets very crowded. it's really terrible, but well, that's asia. love it or hate it...
