08/8/2004 shimla - english version
this is just a very short translation of the german text (for my grandma who doesn't speak english) I have just published. yesterday we arrived in shimla after a strenuous journey, first by local bus (very uncomfortable and hot) and train (very nice and relaxing with superbe views of the surrounding mountains). shimla is a little hillstation in the himalaya which was founded by the british and still has a very british character. from here we plan to travel towards kinnaur where we plan to trek around the mountain kinner kailash (6050 m above sea level) which will take approximately five days. then we will travel to the spiti valley which is very famous for its buddhist monastries. the whole trip is along the border to tibet, so we hope to find some of the original tibetan culture (except maybe for the butter tea...) which has unfortunately disappeared from real tibet.
