Beihai, China
Tulsa and Beihai have actively participated in yearly student exchanges. Tulsa high school students travel to Beihai every year to immerse in the language and culture, while also participating in philanthropic endeavors such as visiting the local orphanage. Our Tulsa students deliver needed supplies and provide much needed attention to the orphanage children. New play equipment was recently provided by Tulsa humanitarians for this orphanage. Beihai youth have won the Sister Cities Young Artist competition at the national level twice. Tulsa teachers have participated in educational exchanges with Beihai's English teachers, and Beihai youth have enjoyed home stays in Tulsa. A port in the province of Guangxi in southern China, Beihai has a population of 1.46 million people. Beihai is famous for its white sandy beaches, pearls and shell art. The province of Guangxi includes seventeen non-Chinese ethnic minorities. It also includes breathtaking tourist attractions near the city of Guilin, including the Li River and many beautiful mountain peaks. More than 3.8 million tourists visit the area annually.
