Another Dead Bird Suspected H5 Virus Positive in H

Preliminary testing of a Scaly-breasted Munia found dead in Hong Kong has indicated a suspected case of H5 avian influenza, said Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department Wednesday.

A spokesman for the department said further confirmatory tests were still under way.

The carcass of the bird was collected by the department staff in Kowloon on Feb. 25 upon referral from the Housing Department.

The department's spokesman again reminded people to observe good personal hygiene and avoid personal contact with wild birds and live poultry.

To date, seven birds have been found dead of H5N1 virus in Hong Kong this year.
