Dining Overview in Linfen
The dining in this fairly remote part of northern China is not very foreigner friendly. Restaurants serving typical Chinese food are few, although your other options are limited. The staple food here is basically flour based - with various types of less than interesting bread and simple noodles. Rice is not always available. The most interesting of the local specialties include Shaomai, Yuanxiao (basic dumplings made with wrappings of glutinous rice flour), twisted dough sticks (Youzha zhanzi) and mutton "stew" (Yang zahui). These dishes tend to be more interesting to look at than to taste, but there should always be a first time! The best places to sample these specialties and more is on Jiefang jie, or in the Pingyang Hotel restaurant.
