By train: Linfen is a pivotal point for the railway transport in the south of Shanxi Province. The Datong-Fenglingdu railway line runs directly through the city, linking northern Shanxi with southern Shanxi. The Houma-Xi'an and Houma-Yueshan railway lines link the east with the west of Shanxi. Today, due to the famed Hukou Falls, it is now fairly convenient to take a train directly to Linfen from Taiyuan, Datong, Beijing, Tianjin, Zhenzhou and Xi'an.
The railway station is in the western section of town.

By bus: The road conditions in this area of Shanxi are not good, although locals use the bus as their most convenient means of transport. For getting to both the Hukou Falls and to Guangsheng Temple/Susan Prison (via Hongdong village), bus is the only viable option. Most of the buses rarely hit above 40km/hr, and this added to the poor roads will mean often longer journeys than you would expect.
The long-distance bus station lies in the east of town.

City transport: Although Linfen is not a tourist-oriented city, it still boasts a fairly convenient city transport system, making it easy for tourists to travel between the attractions. Taxis can be hired, with journeys within the city rarely above RMB20. Buses ply the city as well, although is will be difficult for non-Chinese speakers to work these out.
