Most of the hotels in
Hohhot, like most of the sights in the city, are located to the south of the railway station (that is, to all intents and purposes, the center of the city). Unfortunately, while most of the sights lie to the southwest in the older section of Hohhot, many of the hotels are in the southeast. Hohhot's hotels are nothing to write home about, with no first class hotels, and very little for the traveller on a short budget.
At the upper end of the market, the best hotels are the Zhaojun and the Pearl Inner Mongolian, that both have good facilities. The Zhaojun, a Hong Kong joint venture, is perhaps just on top with its comprehensive services and well equipped rooms. If you are willing to be a little away from the action, or are in the city just for business, then the four star Yitai Hotel, near to the airport, is probably the most comfortable and recognised in the city.
At the mid range level, you will be spending about RMB200 for a standard room. Most of these hotels will offer convenient transportation services, although room standards vary enourmously. In this range both the Hohhot Hotel and the Jinsui Hotel, are reasonable, if a little pricey for what they offer.
For budget travellers the two best options will be the Tongda Hotel (Tongda binguan, Tel: 0471-6968731) at 28 Chezhan dongjie, and the Xincheng Hotel (Xincheng binguan, Tel: 0471-6292288) at 40 Hulunbei'er nanlu. The Tongda is just cheaper and is more convenient, just across the road from the railway station, but the Xincheng has a nicer atmosphere. Expect to pay upwards of RMB60.
