　　 A two-thousand-year history leaves Chengdu with numerous historical places of interest. Fertile lands and a favorable climate endow the city with picturesque surrounding scenic landscape.
China is known as the home of the giant panda, eighty percent of which live in Sichuan Province. Visitors from all over the world visit Sichuan to see them. The Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center is one place where visitors can observe pandas at close range.
Wuhou Memorial Temple , one of the key state-preserved cultural relic units, was built in the 6th Century in memory of Liu Bei, Emperor of the Kingdom of Shu in the period of the Three Kingdoms (220-280), and for Zhuge Liang, Prime Minister of the kingdom, renowned for his skill in military affairs and his contributions to the development of the Shu area (now known as Sichuan Province).
Thatched Cottage of Du Fu was the residence of Du Fu, famous poet living of the Tang Dynasty (618-907). For three and a half years he lived in the cottage, creating over 240 poems handed down to this day. Now the cottage presents itself as the museum of Du Fu with a garden combining artificial and natural beauty.
Symbolized by two bronze goats standing in front of the gate, Qingyang Palace (Gray Goat Palace) is considered to be the oldest Taoist temple in Chengdu. Legends about the origin of the palace can also be enjoyed here.
Wenshu Monastery is the best-preserved Buddhist temple in Chengdu with hundreds of bronze, wooden and stone statues, and Buddhist relics. Gaiwan Tea (a typical tea-drinking style in Sichuan Province) is served in its separate teahouse.
